The Top 3 Trends Driving Employee Benefits Packages in 2023

Top 3 Trends Driving Benefits

Prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, employees are re-evaluating their benefits packages, demanding higher salaries, better working conditions, and more opportunities to advance their careers.

Over the past few years, there has been a trend towards offering employees a wider range of benefits, such as flexible working arrangements, additional time off, and improved healthcare coverage. Many companies are also offering wellness programs and other initiatives to help employees maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Here are the top three perks employees want to see in their benefits packages going into 2023:

  1. Childcare: Since flexibility is now more highly valued than ever, employers are doing everything possible to support the hybrid work model or even a fully remote option. However, the work-from-home (WFH) lifestyle is not always easy, especially for working parents. Between disrupted school schedules and the ever-present fear that accompanies living in a pandemic, employees with children are stressed to the max. To assist working parents, employers have begun offering childcare reimbursements as well as paid parental leave.
  2. Telehealth: With doctor’s doors closing due to COVID-19, telehealth use nationwide is 38 times higher than pre-pandemic levels. As a result, there is a massive push to continue including telehealth services in benefits packages. Employees want the ability to connect with their healthcare provider virtually. Additionally, an advantageous cost structure, such as a different copayment, makes telehealth an even more enticing alternative. Employees appreciate the lower co-pay cost and increased convenience of telehealth when they don’t necessarily have to see a doctor in person.
  3. Ongoing Education: The pandemic has increased both the raw numbers of employees working remotely and their geographic dispersal. Employees want to feel supported by their healthcare regardless of their location, gender, or any other demographic factor that might affect their benefits. However, this information is difficult to access due to a lack of healthcare literacy and understanding of the digital tools offered. Employees need access to benefits consultation during open enrollment and throughout the year. Employers need to educate employees through multiple channels such as on-site meetings and online resources, but also provide concierge resources that can answer questions at any time.
